Gender and Development Specialist

Banyan Global is seeking Gender and Development Specialists for long- and short-term positions, based both internationally and in its home office in Washington, DC. Candidates should meet the following requirements:

At least 10 years of professional experience in gender and international development;
Expertise in addressing gender issues related to one or more of the following areas: education, legal rights, policy, economic development, finance, trade, conflict/post conflict, HIV/AIDS, health, and/or trafficking;
Experience with USAID;
Experience with gender assessment and gender mainstreaming approaches;
Substantial field experience, preferably two years or more working on gender issues in a developing country;
Experience designing and conducting training, with a focus on gender issues; and
Foreign language experience.

Enterprise Development and Value Chain Specialists

Banyan Global is currently seeking specialists in micro, small and medium enterprise (MSME) development and value chain development for short- and long-term assignments in Africa, the Middle East, Asia, and Latin America. Candidates should have at least 8 years experience in MSME development, value chain development and/or competitiveness initiatives focusing on sectors such as agriculture, agro-processing, textiles, handicrafts, manufacturing, and tourism, with substantial field experience. Qualified candidates will possess:

Understanding of firm-level, industry and sector level constraints and opportunities in terms of linking MSMEs into competitive value chains;
Knowledge of and experience with Value Chain Analysis methodology
Ability to assess local markets for MSMEs and business development services
International experience and ability to function effectively in cross-cultural environments

Preferable experience includes:

Training MSMEs in business skills, financial management, strategic planning, and accessing financial services

Gender Specialists

Banyan Global is recruiting long and short-term gender specialists with a particular focus on entrepreneurship, private sector development, and training. Experience with youth a plus. Activities of the specialist will include the following:

Advises project teams on gender integration, assuring project approaches, activities and opportunities are inclusive of women-owned businesses and targets increased opportunities to increase the employment of women in project-related enterprises.
Assists in the development of comprehensive training strategy for the project/project component/partner organization, including a focus on gender, youth, and workforce development issues.
Works with gender, youth, and labor organizations to ensure project activities focus on these groups and issues.

Rural Finance Specialists

MFI Transformation Specialists

Banyan Global is currently seeking development professionals with experience in MFI transformation into regulated banks. Both long-term and short-term consultants are being sought for upcoming contracts.

Senior Transformation Specialist:

Candidates should meet some of the following requirements:

Minimum 10 years of financial sector experience, including working with microfinance institutions and MFI transformation experience.
Experience drafting a full transformation plan that incorporates all the legal, financial and operational issues involved in the transformation process.
Ability to assess and make recommendations on improvement of an MFI's financial management and risk management (including liquidity management, asset and liability management, foreign exchange risk management, interest rate risk management, and adequacy of capital structure) in preparation for transformation.
Experience working with MFIs to raise commercial capital.
Experience in operational aspects of the transformation including organizational structure revisions, new product development and implementation, business process development and security systems.
Ability to provide guidance on legal aspects of the transformation process including new incorporation documents, issues related to assets and liabilities transfer, changes necessary to meet regulatory requirements.
Familiarity with MIS needs of an MFI going through a transformation.

Legal MFI Transformation Specialist:

Candidates should meet some of the following requirements:

Lawyer with minimum 5 years of experience with MFIs, including specific MFI transformation experience.
Experience with all legal and regulatory issues related to microfinance institution transformations into deposit taking, regulated banks.
Experience reviewing legal and regulatory requirements in various Central and Eastern European countries and advising MFIs on legal forms and regulatory compliance issues.
Fluency in one of the following languages a plus: Bosnian, Serbian, Albanian, Croatian or Russian.

MIS Specialists - Transformation:

Candidates should meet some of the following requirements:

Minimum of 5 years of experience with MFIs, including work with MFIs that have undergone full bank transformations.
