Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Manager, Afghanistan

Banyan Global is currently recruiting for a Monitoring & Evaluation Manager to serve as long-term staff on a large Small & Medium Enterprise (SME) Development Project in Afghanistan, beginning October 2009 for a period of 12-24 months.Ê The M&E Manager will oversee the monitoring and evaluation of the major activities of the project's five components and ensure that they are in line with the contract and the Performance Management Plan (PMP).

Specific Objectives and Duties:

  • Review the work progress of each component vis-à-vis the workplan and PMP
  • Assist various components to conform to the reporting framework/guidelines laid down by the M&E system
  • Provide M&E data for monthly, quarterly and annual reports and ad hoc reports as need by USAID
  • Train, as needed, Afghan staff on M&E techniques
  • Train new M&E staff in Kabul and the regional offices to use project's M&E systems
  • Work with the Home Office and Kabul teams to continuously customize the M&E module to closely fit project data tracking and reporting needs
  • Oversee the further development and implementation of evaluations of project's work

Outputs and Deliverables:
Responsible for ensuring that progress towards indicators as specified in the PMP are reported on a monthly, quarterly, annual, and ad hoc basis.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
M&E staff in Kabul and Regional offices, currently approximately twelve national staff members

Reports to Deputy Chief of Party

12-24 months

Business Development Advisor, Ethiopia

Banyan Global is currently recruiting an Ethiopian professional to serve as a Business Development Advisor for a 6 month consultancy under a USAID-funded project in Ethiopia. The project expands private sector provision of affordable, quality health care packages to moderate- and low-income individuals. It fosters private sector partnerships to address HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis. Banyan Global's role is to improve the ability of private health care businesses to manage themselves effectively and if necessary, access credit, thereby improving their capacity to deliver high-quality health care products and services.

The successful candidate will be based in Addis Ababa and will be responsible for conducting direct business consulting and technical assistance to privately owned health facilities in Addis Ababa, Oromia and Amhara regions. The consulting and technical support activities can include:

  • Rapid analysis of financial and business operations to determine challenges, needs, and growth areas. Identify priority areas to address and develop strategic plans.

Review of financial management systems to determine appropriateness of system, usage of system, output of system. Identify solutions where appropriate.

Development of business plan and support material required for loan applications.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with project staff to identify and select private health facilities to provide consulting and technical support.
  • Design consulting formats and templates.
  • Provide consulting and technical support to private health clinic business owners. Activities can include analysis of business operations, strategic planning, and business planning.
  • Submit written reports in English documenting consulting activities.

Candidates should meet the following requirements:

Demonstrated experience in providing business and financial management consulting to small businesses in Ethiopia.

  • Knowledge of business management, especially for small service businesses.
  • Demonstrated understanding of financial management for private enterprises, including bookkeeping, accounting, costing and financing.

MFI Transformation Specialists

Banyan Global is currently seeking development professionals with experience in MFI transformation into regulated banks. Both long-term and short-term consultants are being sought for upcoming contracts.

Senior Transformation Specialist:

Candidates should meet some of the following requirements:

  • Minimum 10 years of financial sector experience, including working with microfinance institutions and MFI transformation experience.
  • Experience drafting a full transformation plan that incorporates all the legal, financial and operational issues involved in the transformation process.

Legal MFI Transformation Specialist:

  • Experience reviewing legal and regulatory requirements in various Central and Eastern European countries and advising MFIs on legal forms and regulatory compliance issues.
