Health Sector Specialist (Azerbaijan)

Banyan Global is currently recruiting a senior professional to serve as a Health Sector Specialist for a short-term consultancy in Azerbaijan. The consultancy will entail a market assessment of the private health sector, including the size of the market, market composition, business models, and their business financing needs, with a particular focus on small scale health enterprises.

The successful candidate will work as part of a small team of researchers, including a Microfinance and SME (MSME) Finance Specialist, and local facilitators, to conduct the assessment in Baku and in one to two other locations in Azerbaijan.

It is envisioned that this assignment will take place November Ð December 2008 and may lead to other short-term consulting opportunities.

The activities will include the following:

  • As part of a team of consultants, implement an assessment of the private health care sector, particularly the sector's business finance needs.
  • Provide background and context to the international team on the current state of health sector reform in Azerbaijan, including a literature review of the size and content of the market.
  • Assist with the organization of interviews with appropriate government, private sector, and international stakeholders.
  • Oversee the planning of interviews and focus group meetings with a selection of private sector health care providers, pharmacies, and distributors.
  • Analyze findings regarding opportunities and constraints to the growth of small scale private health care providers, and their specific financing needs,
  • Develop recommendations for financial institutions interested in reaching out to the market with specialized marketing campaigns and financial products.

Business Development Advisor, Ethiopia

Banyan Global is currently recruiting an Ethiopian professional to serve as a Business Development Advisor for a long-term consultancy under a USAID-funded project in Ethiopia. The project expands private sector provision of affordable, quality health care packages to moderate- and low-income individuals. It fosters private sector partnerships to address HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis. Banyan Global's role is to improve the ability of private health sector businesses to manage themselves effectively and if necessary, access credit, thereby improving their capacity to deliver high-quality health care products and services.

The successful candidate will be based in Addis Ababa and will be responsible for managing program activities taking place in Addis Ababa as well as one to two other locations in Ethiopia, overseeing training and other activities primarily in cities such as Addis Ababa and Adama (Nazret.)

The activities may include the following:

  • Coordinate all business training activities for private health providers, serving as a master trainer and assist in overseeing training implementation by local training firms.
  • Organize trade fairs, with the assistance of a subcontracted firm or organization, for private clinics and hospitals.
  • Work with partner financial institutions to promote health sector lending, including training, one-on-one technical assistance, and borrower referrals.

Senior Transformation Specialist:
