Banyan Global is a subcontractor to Abt Associates on the USAID SEGIR-GBTI II project, which supports broad-based and sustainable development in United States Agency for International Development (USAID)-recipient countries by providing intellectual leadership and technical resources for addressing constraints to economic growth. This activity strengthens USAID’s capacity to assist developing countries in introducing, developing, and maintaining appropriate economic policies and institutional reforms at the macro, sectoral, and project levels.
The core tasks under the General Business component include
- business-development strategies and activities
- institutional development, partnering, and creating institutional linkages
- new technologies to foster economic growth
- business environment analysis (economic, legal, and regulatory frameworks)
- legal and regulatory environments in support of private-sector development
- transfer of state-owned assets to the private sector
The technical areas under the Trade component include
- trade policy analysis
- trade and investment institutional development
- World Trade Organization membership accession and enforcement
- trade finance and insurance
- trade laws and regulatory reform, tariffs, and non-tariff trade barriers
The technical areas under the Investment component include
- investment policy, investment codes, and investment tax regimes
- foreign direct investment, privatization programs, investment linkages, and institutional development
