Banyan Global is a subcontractor to Abt Associates on the SHOPS Leader with Associates cooperative agreement. The United States Agency for International Development's (USAID) objective is to build upon its decades of support for and leadership in private-health-sector programming and its work expanding contraceptive choices, family planning (FP), and reproductive health (RH) programs. This agreement increases the role of the private sector in the sustainable provision and use of quality FP/RH, HIV/AIDS and other health information, products, and services. The project will strengthen global support for state-of-the-art private-sector FP/RH and other health models, approaches, and tools; advance knowledge about and understanding of the private sector's provision of FP/RH and other health information, products, and services; strengthen private-health-sector systems; and initiate, implement, and scale up innovative, effective, and sustainable private-sector FP/RH and other health programs. Under SHOPS Banyan Global strengthens and scales up private-sector service delivery and distribution models by expanding access to financing, structuring and supporting health sector Development Credit Authorities, strengthening business-support services, and improving market linkages. Banyan Global also assists in piloting financing mechanisms and models to increase access and decrease financial barriers; expanding public-private partnerships; and improving the viability and sustainability of private-sector organizations.
