Banyan Global was a subcontractor to RTI on the five-year sole-award indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity (IDIQ) Growth, Enterprise, Employment and Livelihoods (GEEL) contract (ceiling $74 million). The IDIQ promoted inclusive economic growth in Somalia, with a focus on addressing multiple constraints to economic growth in Somalia, including a lack of financial institutions, issues with business climate and commercial law, a lack of demanded work skills, and how these constraints specifically affect women and youth. For the IDIQ as a whole, Banyan Global led the implementation of gender inclusion, women’s economic empowerment and youth integration activities. It oversaw the integration of youth and gender considerations into all project activities. Throughout the project, Banyan Global delivered trainings aligned with Somali gender and cultural norms to all project staff on gender and youth integration tools and techniques, gender- and youth-sensitive facilitation, and integrating gender and youth in the monitoring and evaluation processes. RTI and Banyan Global also implemented a task order under the IDIQ to increase the competitiveness of agricultural value chains. Banyan Global conducted a participatory project gender analysis in South Central, Somaliland, and Puntland regions of Somalia, examining gender dynamics across the project-specific agricultural value chains. Banyan Global also implemented a Women in Agribusiness Forum that brought together women business leaders, organizations, business associations, and agricultural/farmer groups from across South-Central Somalia to identify the specific needs of women in business and opportunities and potential solutions to address these needs.
