West Africa Trade and Investment Hub Project

The focus of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID)-funded West Africa Trade and Investment Hub was to increase the competitiveness of the region’s small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) agribusinesses to expand intra-regional and global trade. Under the project, Banyan Global’s four-person regional team led value chain studies, provided strategic insight, and led export-oriented programming to facilitate SME intra-regional and global trade. Our regional team built the capacity of over 30 West African business support organizations to provide market-oriented business advisory services to SMEs, including information on intra-regional and global markets; introductions to international buyers; technical support to develop international production standards; and accounting and financial management support. Our work built the capacity of firms and financial intermediaries to access critical debt and equity for agribusinesses, as well as built the capacity of cross-cutting supporting industries, such as transport firms, warehouses, and packaging manufacturers. These efforts resulted in over $100 million in new financing. All of our work was done with and through African partner organizations to build skills, capacity, and institutional sustainability.
